Built from an ultra-fine Merino, our L1 base layer styles are the perfect next-to-skin apparel to start your layering system. Whatever you’re doing, and wherever you are, Merino is naturally water repellent, odor resistant and stretchy. It’s also high wicking and feels “breathable”, all while keeping you insulated, even when wet. As for dealing with extreme temperatures, Merino sheep are bred to survive scorching summers and freezing winters. Their fleece has evolved to stay cool in temperatures as high as 86°F, or stay warm in temperatures as low as 14°F. Depending on your own body temperature and the humidity of your skin, Merino fibers in clothing respond and adapt to the conditions by either trapping or releasing heat just like they do on the sheep. Looks like millions of years of evolution from a bunch of woolly mammals has its merits!
